Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to what patients most often ask before a first visit. Anything not covered here can be raised at the consultation.

Do I need a referral letter to book a consultation?
No referral is required to see a specialist in private practice in Hong Kong. You may book directly by phone or WhatsApp. If you have relevant medical records or imaging, bringing them helps the consultation.
What happens at the first consultation?
The doctor will listen to your concerns, take a medical history and perform any necessary examination, then explain whether treatment is appropriate, what the options are, and their expected recovery, limitations and risks. There is no obligation to proceed with any treatment.
Who carries out the treatments?
Consultations and procedures at the clinic are carried out by the doctor who sees you at consultation. Surgical procedures that require an operating theatre are performed at appropriately equipped facilities.
Do all procedures involve surgery?
No. Some concerns are better addressed with non-surgical treatment, and sometimes the best advice is no treatment at all. Recommendations are based on clinical assessment, not on any particular treatment being available.
How do I prepare for surgery, and what is recovery like?
Preparation and recovery differ by procedure and by patient. Before any procedure you will receive specific instructions covering fasting, medications, aftercare and follow-up, and these will be explained to you in person. All surgery carries risks, which will be discussed with you before you decide.
What languages are spoken at the clinic?
Consultations are available in Cantonese, English and Putonghua.
